Lord of the Flies by William Golding

There is a reason this book is considered a classic. This book was recommended to me many times and I did not act on that recommendation. Don't make the same mistake I did. This book will really make you consider how far you would go to stay alive and who your true friends are. Ralph is forced to make that decision when he is voted leader of the other boys. His second in command turns on him creating doubt. Ralph is subjected to living alone on an island and watching his friends be murdered. Set at the dawn of a new world war these British schoolboys are forced to consider the possibility of dieing. Lord of the Flies is a riveting tale.

Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale

Shannon Hale is a well known author always weaving a story that is remarkable. Book of a Thousand Days is one of her best works in my opinion. She tells a story about a lady's maid always trying to do her best to obey her mistress, who is at the moment locked in a tower as punishment for creating a betrothal to a man her father does not approve of. Dashti, the lady's maid, is forced t pretend to be her mistress so they might be safe. Dashti does not enjoy this lie, but has come to realize that it is important to maintain the charade. In the Dashti gets the man of her dreams while still managing to defeat the warlord trying to overtake the empire. Shannon Hale has really outdone herself on this one.
